Amazing value box set collection of 45 Skatalites classics, inextricably linked to Duke Reid's Treasure Isle studio. 'James Bond', 'Latin Goes Ska', 'Rude Boy', 'Rocking Away' and 'I Will Always Love You' are among the enduring ska and rocksteady recordings present here, making for a compelling portrait of one of Jamaica's best loved groups. "In Jamaica throughout the early half of the 1960's Ska prevailed and of all the groups to make their mark during this time, none proved more popular or influential than the legendary Skatalites. Following their creation in the summer of '64, this powerhouse instrumental combo, featuring the cream of Kingston's session players, dominated the island's music industry for 18 glorious months. During this period, they performed on countless sessions for every producer of note, with Duke Reid and Coxsone Dodd among their most regular employers. Success outside their native Jamaica finally came in 1967, some two years after their break up, when the group's storming version of the theme from the motion picture, 'Guns Of Navarone' broke into the UK Pop charts, peaking at number 36 in the national listings."
