The Congos est un groupe de reggae jamaïcain formé en 1977 par Cedric Myton et Roydel Johnson. Ce nom a été choisi car c'est le Congo qui a fourni le plus fort contingent d'esclaves à la Jamaïque. Ce duo est repéré par Lee Perry. Accompagné du baryton Watty Burnett, qui deviendra par la suite le troisième membre du groupe, il enregistre la même année Heart of the Congos dans les studios Black Ark à Kingston. Le groupe sort deux ans plus tard l'album Congo Ashanti. Roydel Johnson quitta le groupe en 1979, après la sortie de Congo Ashanti, pour une carrière solo en Angleterre. Le groupe, séparé de Roy Johnson, sortit encore deux albums avant de se séparer. Cedric Myton et Watty Burnett se retrouvèrent à la fin des années 90 mais il faudra attendre 2006 et la sortie de l'album Swinging Bridge pour revoir enfin le groupe au complet.

Ce groupe est considéré comme l'une des plus belle harmonies jamaïquaines, en particulier avec l'album Heart of the Congos.
